Play the MP3: Click on the “Play” button in the header next to the chapter name to listen to the first chapter currently being displayed. If more than one chapter is being displayed, each chapter header will have its own “Play” button so that you can listen to any chapter currently being displayed.

Download the MP3 by using the link to the right of the Yahoo! Media Player button.

Acceptable Use: MP3 recordings of the Bible are licensed to David and Deborah Jabs by Audio Treasure. You may download any of the Audio Treasure MP3 Bible readings found in the Study Bible for personal use, but may not distribute them. License to redistribute the Audio Treasure KJV Bible reading MP3s can be obtained for a modest fee at audiotreasure.com.

Note: The Study Bible uses Yahoo! Media Player to play MP3s, which may cause Study Bible pages to load more slowly. You can disable the Yahoo! Media Player in Preferences. See “Preferences” for details.

    Create Study Notes

    Overview
The Study Bible gives you the ability to add “Tags,” “Chain Verses,” and “Commentary” (collectively referred to as “Notes”) to any Bible verse.

Tags are short labels that you assign to a verse, similar to the way you might tag a Video on Google or to a post on Blogspot, for example. Some examples of Study Bible tags that you might create are:

Chain Verses are other Bible texts that you want to reference from the current text. You can click a Chain Verse and go directly from one verse to another. Study Bible lets you create as many Chain Verses as you like for every verse in the Bible.

Commentary entries allows you to create your own, personal Bible commentary based on your Bible studies and take notes on what you learn as you go.

Tags, Chain Verses, and Commentary are all added in a similar way.

    Add a Study Note
Note: You must be logged in to use this feature.

notes with and without the + icon

Every verse in the Study Bible has an icon before the verse. If the box is solid red, that means that there are no Notes for that verse. If the box has a white + in it, that means that there are Notes for that verse. Click the box to see the Notes Editor.

If the verse has no Notes, Study Bible will display a set of fields so you can enter a Tag, Chain Verse, or some Commentary.

If the verse already has some Notes, they will be displayed in a summary list, along with a button that says, “Add Tag, Chain Verse, or Commentary.” To add another Note, click the “Add Tag, Chain Verse, or Commentary” button. To edit an existing tag, click the + button next to the summary and Study Bible will allow you to edit the Notes.

Add or Edit a Tag: Type the Tag into the Tag field. Study Bible will automatically save the Tag when you press the “Enter” key, click or tab off of the field, or close the Notes Editor.

Add or Edit a Chain Verse: Type the Chain Verse into the Chain Verse field. Study Bible will verify that the verse is a valid Bible verse and display the validated verse in the Chain Verse field when you press the “Enter” key, click or tab off of the Chain Verse field, or close the Notes Editor. If the verse is not valid, Study Bible will display a warning and will not save the Chain Verse.

Add or Edit some Commentary: Type some Commentary into the Commentary field. Study Bible will automatically save the Commentary when you press the “Enter” key, click or tab off of the Commentary field, or close the Notes Editor.

    Delete a Study Note
To delete a Note, expand it for editing and click the “Delete” button ( X ). Study Bible will ask “Are you sure you want to delete this Note?” Click “OK.” Study Bible will delete the Note.

Note: Deleting a Note will delete the Tag, the Chain Verse, and the Commentary.

    Close the Study Note Editor
Click the “Close” button ( – ) on the Notes Editor to minimize the current Note and show it in summary form.

Click the “Close” button ( – ) on the verse to hide all of the Notes for this verse.

    Using Bookmarks

    bookmarks

The Study Bible allows you to create and use bookmarks, just like sticking a bulletin insert into your paper Bible. The Study Bible allows you to create a bookmark for a single verse, a range of verses, a single chapter, or a range of chapters.

    Create a Bookmark
Before you can Set a bookmark, you must create it in Preferences.

    user-management

Click the Preferences link in the User Management bar to access Preferences.
Click the Manage Bookmarks link. Manage Bookmarks will be displayed.

    create-bookmark

Type in the name of a new bookmark and click Add New. The bookmark will be added to the list on the right.

    manage-bookmark

Once you have added more than one bookmark, you can change the order that the bookmarks appear in the Bookmarks dropdown by clicking the “/\” and “\/” buttons.
You can Delete a bookmark by clicking Delete.

    Set a Bookmark

    bookmarks

To Set a bookmark, first navigate to the verses that you want to bookmark. Select the bookmark that you want to set in the bookmark dropdown and click the “Set” button. The Study Bible will remember your bookmark so you can Go to it later.

Note: You must be logged in to use bookmarks.
Note: You can create new bookmarks in Preferences.

    Go to a Bookmark
To Go to a previously set bookmark, select the bookmark in the Bookmarks dropdown to which you want to go and click the “Go” button. The Study Bible will display the verse or verses that you had Set in the bookmark.

    Reading Plans
Reading plans help you to pace your Bible readings over a period of time. If, for instance, you wanted to read the entire Bible over the course of a year, Study Bible can create a plan for you to help you stay on pace by offering you a list of chapters to read each day, along with helping you to chart your progress towards your Bible reading goal.

    Create a Reading Plan

    user-management

You can create a new Reading Plan in Preferences. Select the Mange Reading Plans link.

    manage-reading-plans

Create a Reading Plan: enter a plan name, choose your starting and ending book, the number of days per week that you want to read, how long you want to take to complete the plan, and then click the “Test” button. Study Bible will display the plan details, including how many chapters you have elected to read, how many chapters you will need to read each day, and how many days it will take to complete the plan. You can try different parameters until you get a plan that you like. When you are satisfied with your plan, click the “Create Plan” button to save it in the Study Bible.

Change Order of Reading Plans: once you have added more than one Reading Plan, you can change the order that the Reading Plans appear in the Reading Plans dropdown by clicking the “/\” and “\/” buttons. Changes are saved automatically.

Delete a Reading Plan: click the Delete button opposite the Reading Plan name in the list of Reading Plans.

Once you are done managing your Reading Plans, you can return to the main Study Bible page by clicking the Return to Study Bible link in the upper left corner of the screen.

    Use a Reading Plan
Once you have created a Reading Plan, you can access it through the Reading Plan dropdown.

    reading-plan-dropdown

After you select the plan, Study Bible will display some additional controls: a checkbox for you to indicate when you have completed the reading, a text progress report (i.e. reading 1 of 298 readings), a graphic progress bar, a “previous button” ( < ) and a “next button” ( > ).

    reading-plan-00

Check the checkbox to mark this reading as complete. Click the “Next” (>) button to see your next reading, or “Previous” (<) to review a previous reading. The progress bar will fill in as you move from reading to reading.

    Preferences
You can customize some aspects and features of the Study Bible through Preferences.

    user-management

Inside of Preferences, you can set General Preferences, Manage Bookmarks, and Manage Reading Plans. (Bookmarks and Reading Plans are covered in their own sections. See “Bookmarks” and “Reading Plans.”)

    General Preferences

    preferences-navigator

    preferences-general

General Preferences come up by default when you open Preference and allow you to manage Newsletter Subscriptions and Study Bible Preferences.

To subscribe to one of the Vegemedia newsletters, check the box next to the newsletter name. Uncheck the box to unsubscribe.

To disable the MP3 Player, uncheck the “Show MP3 Player” option. Use this option if Study Bible pages seem to be loading slowly or if you do not want Yahoo! code running on your computer. You can still download the Bible mp3 files and play them on your own computer, but you cannot play to the Bible MP3s through the Study Bible unless this option is checked.

To display verse references as links, check the Display verse references as links. This is a feature for advanced users.

When checked, the Study Bible will display the verse references at the front of each verse as three different anchors that you can copy and paste into a forum, blog, or email so that you can give a Bible reference without copying and pasting the entire text. It also allows others to see the reference straight from the Bible.

Note: To avoid distraction in your studies, Study Bible does not change the font or text-decoration of the verse references when this feature is checked.

    verse-reference-links

    When this option is checked,

    • the book abbreviation (i.e. “Joh”) becomes an anchor to all of John chapter 3. Clicking this link will display the third chapter of the book of John.
    • the chapter (i.e. “3”) becomes an anchor to display John chapter 3 with a bookmark to verse 16. Clicking this link will display the third chapter of the book of John and the page will be scrolled so that verse 16 is visible, but not highlighted.
    • the verse (i.e. “16”) becomes an anchor to display only the verse John 3:16, by itself. Clicking this link will display only the verse John 3:16 by itself.

This function is experimental and makes sense to the author and the author encourages any feedback.
